Should I even start if I have no prior musical experience?

Absolutely. Over 95% of people who have come to me over 20 years have had exactly zero prior experience with any musical instrument. Today, they are all enjoying the rhythms they play with their drums!

How long does it take to become really good?

This is very dependent on the openess and previous experience of the student. But roughly, a couple of months of learning and practicing will get you well-versed in the basic beats and rhythms.

What style are you teaching?

I’m teaching my own contemporary modern style of djembe playing. This is not traditional djembe education. However, in my experience, this modern approach is one of the best things to learn with this drum. I’ve played all over the world with countless other musicians, and the djembe path that I walk and teach is of absolutely amazing results.
