Two Djembe Bass Strokes in One Motion

Two Djembe Bass Strokes in One Motion

I just showed you my trick for landing two bass strokes in one smooth motion—a game-changer for flowing through fast grooves without extra effort.

Here's the breakdown:

  • The motion: Swing your right hand (my bass hand) down to hit the center—boom, first bass. Let it bounce naturally, then catch the rebound on the way up for the second hit. No extra swing needed.
  • Simple vs. tough: Start slow with just basses in a row. Ramp up by weaving into the straight beat—bass-bass-quiet-slap-quiet, etc. Add muted slaps or open ones for color.
  • In action: I demoed it solo (bass-only pulse—perfect for backing a friend on guitar), then layered with slaps for a full, driving rhythm.

Master this bounce, and your beats get tighter, faster, effortless. (Slaps in one motion? That's for next time.)
