Paradiddle with the Djembe Drum
Share
I just gave you a quick dive into the paradiddle—that killer drumming essential: right-left-right-right, then left-right-left-left. Eight strokes total, blending singles ("para") with doubles ("diddle") for that balanced flow.
We started basic: all bass for the pattern, then mixed in quiet slaps (ghost notes) and loud ones for dynamics. Quiet version keeps it subtle; loud amps the energy. Then I plugged it into the straight beat—bass start, quiets, loud slap end—using paradiddle hands. Sounds way cooler with those doubles, especially slapping from the sides for extra snap.
This exercise is gold: builds equality between hands, weaves doubles seamlessly into singles, and preps you for advanced grooves when you want to learn African drumming.
